New Zealand is a land of remarkably scenic variety, with majestic mountains, white sand beaches and graceful sheltered harbors.
Diversions and Memorable Excursions Start your cruise in the Bay of Islands and spend the night in historic Russell, the first capital of New Zealand. Head for Whangaroa some 32 miles north. This perfectly protected harbor features dramatic headlands and waterfalls surrounded by an abundance of native flora. As you're returning to the Bay of Islands, a short sail takes you to the white sand beaches of Cavalli Island and the wreck of the Rainbow Warrior. Heading into the bay past the Black Rocks, one of only two lava formations of this kind found in the Southern Hemisphere, Roberton Island beckons with its snorkel trail and walking track which leads from shore to sky. Swim, snorkel, fish, dive or just relax and enjoy the sunshine. Near the historic Cape Brett lighthouse awaits Piercy Island, a spectacular rugged natural formation with its famous Hole in the Rock and Cathedral Cave. Watch for playful dolphins and penguins.
